Search types:
  • All: All Basic information Class below
  • Researcher: Full names, Organizations, and published papers of researchers who are affiliated with universities, public research Organizations, and research Organizations in Japan.
  • Article: Bibliographical information (title, author, published material, volume number, issue number, and page numbers) of major science and technology, medical, and pharmaceutical Article from Japan and abroad.
  • Patent: Bibliographical information (title, application number, inventors, etc.) of publications before examination, unexamined patent publications, and re-publications before examination created by the Japan Patent Office.
  • Research Project: Titles, study periods, investigating researchers of various Research Project conducted in Japan.
  • Organization: Organization names of universities, public research Organizations, and research Organizations, representatives, addresses, and business overview.
  • Technical Term: Japanese science and technology terms, synonyms, related terms, and broader terms.

Search window
Searches are performed from this field. Upon entering a keyword in the search field, suggestions of candidate terms from the information (headers) stored in J-GLOBAL will display in a cascading fashion. The suggestions will vary depending on each Basic information Class. For example, if the Researcher tab is selected, names of researchers will be suggested. Advanced search is available on Researcher, Article(Papers), Organization, Chemical Substance, and Material(Journals). 'Analysis tool' button llinks to J-GLOBAL anakytic tool β(Japanese version Only).

Chemical Substance

As of March 2016, NikkajiWeb has been integrated into J-GLOBAL. The advanced Chemical Substance search is now capable of returning search results equivalent to that of NikkajiWeb. Links to collaborating Organizations also continue to be available for access via the Chemical Substance Link Center.

The JST Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) has been integrated into J-GLOBAL. The advanced materials search is now capable of returning search results equivalent to that of OPAC.

Search results list panel

Expansion of other names and synonyms
J-GLOBAL determines the category of the entered keyword term (name of person, Organization name, term, etc.).
Based on the judgment results, aliases (synonyms) are pulled from J-GLOBAL's internal dictionaries and displayed.
Select the desired aliases for inclusion in the search and click the Search again button to rerun the search with the OR operator with the selected aliases.
This will produce results with few omissions in the results.
Number of search hits
Displays the number of hits in each category.
Refine search
The collection of search results can be refined with, for example, authors and their affiliated Organizations. For each item, no more than the top 100 results will be shown.
The refined search may be performed with multiple filters enabled. For items available for refinement, refer here.
Current search selections
Displays the current items selections for refining the search.
Display order
By default, the results are displayed in order of score, calculated by J-GLOBAL original algorithm.
Besides score order, the other sort orders are:
  • Researcher, Organizations, Technical Term, Chemical Substance, genes, and research resources: In order of most recent update/In order of oldest update.
  • Article: In order of most recent publication year/In order of oldest publication year.
  • Patents: In order of most recent application date/In order of oldest application date.
  • Research Project: In order of most recent study start year/In order of oldest study start year.

Researcher

J-GLOBAL researcher information is displayed based on the information registered in researchmap. If the researcher has opted to keep his/her profile private, the items will be blank.

Main header entry area
  • Last update: The date of the last update in researchmap.
  • J-GLOBAL ID: A unique ID for identifying each Basic information Class in J-GLOBAL.
  • Researcher name (kanji): Researcher name in kanji (This will be a main entry word).
  • Researcher name (ruby text) and researcher name (alphabetic): Displays the researcher name as ruby text and in alphabetic.
  • Affiliated Organization/Department: Displays the researcher's affiliated Organization and department name.
    *If the researcher is affiliated with multiple Organizations, all the Organizations will be displayed.
  • Title: Displays the title, for example, Professor or Assistant Professor.
    *If the researcher is affiliated with multiple Organizations, the various titles will be displayed.
  • Research key word: Displays the freely entered keyword related to the research field.
    *Contact button: This button will display only if the researcher has permitted email inquiries to be delivered to him/her. This feature is also only for users who are logged in to MyJ-GLOBAL.

The link takes you to the registered information on researchmap where notices on the registered information and updates for the researcher may be viewed.

Homepage URL: Displays the researcher's website address.

Research field: Displays the category of theresearch field (Technical Term Link to Technical Term)
Research keywords: Displays the freely entered keywords related to the research field (Technical Term Link to Technical Term)
Research project for competitive and other funds: Displays the research project for the competitive and other funds.

  • Papers: Displays papers.
  • Misc: Displays misc.
  • Patents: Displays patents (Patent Link to Patent)

  • Lectures and oral presentations: Displays lectures and oral presentations.

    Reference number: A unique ID created by JST for identifying articles.
  • Title (Japanese): Displays the Japanese title. Even if the source title is not Japanese, JST independently translates the title into Japanese.
  • Title (English): Displays the English title. If there is no English title, it will not be shown.
  • Title (Original language): The original language title will be displayed (in case it is neither Japanese nor English). This is not shown if the original title is Japanese or English.
  • Author: Displays the authors. In principle, this is displayed as presented in the source Article.
  • Material name: Displays the published material and the name of the publishing house (Material Link to the Material)
    Volume, issue, and page numbers: Displays the volume, issue, and page numbers.

Material name/JST material number: Displays the published material and the name of the publishing house [Material Link to the material)/An ID number granted by JST to each collected material (Article Search the Article]
  • Volume, issue, page: Displays the material's volume, issue, and page numbers.
  • Publication year: Displays the year of publication. Month and date will also be displayed if available for the material.
  • ISSN/ISBN/CODEN: A serial number issued only to serial publications/A serial number issued only to books.
  • Category name for material content: Displays the category of the material (examples are papers, proceedings, or articles).
  • Article type: Content type of Article, classificated by JST.
  • Country of issue/Language: Displays the country where the material was issued.
Citation
Cited Article: Displays the citation in the Article. (Sometimes references in the Article will not display) (Article Link to Article)
Citations of the Article: Displays other Article that cites the Article. (Will display the other articles only if they are in J-GLOBAL archives) (Article Link to Article).
Research Project citing the Article: Displays Research Project that cite the Article. (Will display the Research Project only if they are in J-GLOBAL archives) (Research Project Link to Research Project).
Substances index
Substances index: Organic low-molecular compounds indexed by JST from the theme of the Article. Each chemical substance is stored in the basic information for Chemical Substance (Chemical Subsutance Link to Chemical Substance).
JST classification and terms in the title
JST classification: Displays the JST category name (JST classification code) (Article Search the Article).
Terms in the title: Displays the terms independently extracted by J-GLOBAL as key words. (4) In the search results list refinement, these are used as terms extracted from the title (Technical Term Link to Technical Term).

*JGPN (aggregate ID): Stands for J-GLOBAL Person Number in Comprehensive Identification System. It is an ID number generated by the identification system integrated into J-GLOBAL. The same ID number is assigned to an Person believed to be the same for authors and inventors across Article, Patent and Research Project. However, since this number is assigned to Person that are judged with high probability to be the same Person based on co-authorship and other information, the same Person is not always assigned the same ID.

Overview

  • Nikkaji number: A unique number determined by the Japan Chemical Substance Dictionary (Nikkaji) maintained by JST. Jx.xxx.xxxA: Initial letter "J" is fixed, followed by a number ("x"), with a period (".") delimiting every third position. XXXX The last capital letter ("A") is a check digit.
    When a Nikkaji number was abolished based on some modifications, the abolished Nikkaji number is called the "former Nikkaji number".
  • Substance type: There are three broad categories, shown below.
    • Decided structure: Substances with a clear structure
    • Mixture: Substances with unknown or undetermined structure
    • Undecided structure: Mixtures, racemic compounds, or compounds with relative structural arrangements
  • Molecular formula: Follows the hill system. Substances containing carbon will lead with a "C" followed by hydrogen ("H"), with other elements arranged in alphabetical order. Formulas for substances not containing carbon arrange all elements alphabetically, including hydrogen. Formulas for metal salts of organic acids also arrange the elements in the same way without differentiating metal elements. Example: Sodium acetate C2H3NaO2 (Rational formula: CH3COONa)
  • Molecular weight: Molecular weights to the third decimal place are available. These are automatically calculated based on the structure.
  • CAS Registry Number: Displays the assigned serial US CAS (Chemical Abstracts Service) Registry Number.
  • InChI: Displays InChI (IUPAC International Identifier). Using 'OpenBabel 2.3.2'.
  • InChI key: Displays the InChI key. Using 'InChI software v. 1.04'.
  • SMILES: Displays the molecular structure in SMILES notation. Using 'OpenBabel 2.3.2'.
  • KEGG DRUG: Displays the KEGG DRUG ID.
  • KEGG COMPOUND: Displays the KEGG COMPOUND ID.
  • Regulation number: The regulation number determined by the Law Concerning the Examination and Regulation of Manufacture, etc. of Chemical Substance (Chemical Substances Control Law) and the Occupational Safety and Health Act and published in the Official Gazette is recorded as the occasion demands. Sometimes the revisions are not reflected in the recorded archive. When using this feature, we recommend that the Official Gazette, List of Existing Chemical Substance, and list of newly announced substances be verified.
    Reference number for the published Official Gazette of the Chemical Substance Control Law

    This is a reference number for compounds that have been published in the List of Existing Chemical Substances determined by the Law Concerning the Examination and Regulation of Manufacture, etc. of Chemical Substance (Chemical Substances Control Law; CSCL) and afterwards published as a new compound. The leading number in parentheses is the CSCL classification code followed by a hyphen and a serial number.
    There are instances of one reference number corresponding to multiple compounds among compounds that have been published in the List of Existing Chemical Substances of the CSCL and the Official Gazette. In such cases, "(general)" is added to the end of the reference number and only the name is registered in the single reference number for the published Official Gazette. Any additional corresponding compounds are assigned the same reference number for the published Official Gazette and registered.

    This is a number for compounds determined by the Industrial Safety and Health Act and published in the Official Gazette.
    The code system comprises a 12-digit number (a broad classification), a subclassification number in parentheses, and a serial number. These are separated by a hyphen. Items without a subclassification omit the subclassification number and consists of the broad classification and the serial number with a hyphen in between.

    EINECS number
    The identifying number for the compound determined by the EC in EINECS (European Inventory of Existing Commercial Chemical Substances) is added to the word "EINECS" at the end.

    RTECS number
    This is the compound number published in RTECS (Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances) by the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
    It comprises 2 characters followed by 7 numbers.
    Example: CV2442600
    TSCA number
    This is a number assigned to compounds published in the ledger created by the TSCA (Toxic Substances Control Act) in the US.
    There is no unique TSCA serial number. It utilizes the CAS Registry Number and stores it in TSCA (CAS Registry Number) format.
    Example: TSCA(15667-10-4)
    UN number
    One of the recommendations of the Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods established in the United Nations Economic and Social Council was the assigning of a number (a four-digit number) to chemical substances that are dangerous and hazardous to transport. The number is stored with "UN" at the beginning followed by the number with a hyphen ("-") in between.

  • Systematic name: A name indicating the structure of the substance. It conforms to the IUPAC nomenclature and is described by its Japanese Systematic name according to the transliteration rules defined by the Chemical Society of Japan.
    Systematic names of mixtures are expressed as follows.
    General mixtures: Component A/Component B, (x:y) where (x:y) is the component ratio.
    Example: 1-Piperidinecarbodithioic acid/Piperidine, (1:1)
    Adducts, onium salts, hydrates: Compound A/adduct
    Example: Dodecylamine hydrochloride
    Racemic mixture "rac-"
    Example: rac-(2R*)-2-Aminopropanoic acid
    Other mixtures are also treated as mixture types as shown below.
    Compounds with relative stereostructures "trans-"
    Example: trans-1,2-Cyclopentanedicarboxylic acid
    This means that it could be: (1R,2R)-1,2-Cyclopentanedicarboxylic acid
    or (1S,2S)-1,2-Cyclopentanedicarboxylic acid.
  • Other names: Refers to the vernacular name, generic name, and trademark name, etc. that are commonly used except systematic name. Both Japanese and English expressions are stored. This box will also include the English Systematic name. Clinical trial numbers and color index numbers are also stored. Clinical trial numbers are essentially determined by each manufacturer and consist of characters and numerical strings. In principle, a hyphen separates the characters and numbers. The numbers do not have a comma in every third position. Since these numbers are imported as presented in the paper, sometimes hyphens are replaced by spaces or are omitted, so keep this in mind when performing searches.
