電極反応で二酸化炭素と水から、メタン、エチレン等の有機物を合成する。電極として、銅電極および炭素繊維電極を用いる。現在 (メタン+エチレン)の収率で70%を達成しているが、エチレンの収率は 30%以下なので、これを最終的には50%以上にする。太陽光を集光して、二酸化炭素と水から有機物を合成する。用いる触媒系は、太陽光で水を分解できる光触媒に、銅-鉄-アルミナ-カリウム系の二酸化炭素固定化触媒を複合化したものを用いる。
