現在,電気自動車等に採用されている,永久磁石同期モータ(PMSM)には,1)過酷な運転条件下の高トルク特性,2)常用域における高効率特性,および3)安定して加速する定出力運転特性が必要である。そして,これらの特性を実現するために,界磁磁束は,1)では大きく,2),3)では小さくなければならない。PMSMがこれらの特性に全て,対応することは不可能である。これに対処するため,著者らは,フェライト磁石を用いたコンシクエントポールPM型アキシャルギャップモータに,界磁磁束調節が可能な直流界磁巻線を併設した,ハイブリッド界磁型モータを提案した。そして,プロトタイプの製作および試験を行ない,その運転特性を調査した。
