ケララ州(インド)のKuttanadとKole地域は主に不適切な排水施設のため雨期には水浸しになる。20世紀初頭にこの地域の排水(汲み出し)を改革して,排水作業用の「Petti and Para system」が導入された。Petti and Para systemのいろいろなモデルが利用可能である。しかしながら,システムは作業とメンテナンスの意味で不効率であり,また排水作業用の高効率ポンプの需要がある。いくつかのタイプのポンプが排水のために利用されるが,軸流プロペラポンプが高排水で低水頭の汲み出しに堪えるものである。プロペラポンプは,水に対してインペラ羽の推進作用によって圧力水頭を発生する。持続可能作業のため,エネルギとコスト節減技術が適用されるならば従来のシステムに対し軸流プロペラポンプの利用が推奨されるべきだ。(翻訳著者抄録)
