  • 1996 - 2007 九州大学第一内科の分子腫瘍研究室を主宰し、多くのがん関連の研究を行ってきた。とくに5-FUとシスプラチンの相乗作用の新しいメカニズムの解明は有名であり、またシグナル伝達と抗がん剤耐性、分子標的治療剤の作用機序などの解析で多くの業績がある。また早くから腫瘍内科医の必要性を訴え、その育成にかかわってきた、現在、九州のがん拠点病院の中核を担う多くのがん薬物療法専門医/腫瘍内科医を育てた。さらに九州での臨床試験の底上げをはかるためKMOGなどの臨床試験グループを立ち上げ、多くの抗癌剤の臨床治験や医師主導の臨床試験
