光入射面より導入された光を閉じ込め面状に広げて外部へ出射させる導光板と、導光板の光入射面に対向配置された、導光板の光入射面の幅と比較して小さな光源とを備えた面光源装置において、導光板に入射した光の単位角度当りの光量と、導光板の光出射領域の、光源から見た単位角度当りの面積との比が角度によらずほぼ一定であることを特徴とする面光源装置。
