【要約】【課題】 比較的保磁力の高い磁性層としてCo系合金を用いて、高い感度を有する磁気抵抗効果素子を作製する。【解決手段】 電極11上には保磁力の低いNi-Fe系合金層14を形成し、Ni-Fe系合金層上に酸化物絶縁層15を形成し、酸化物絶縁層上にCo系合金層16を形成する。このような積層構造とすることにより、Co系合金層16の保磁力は高くなり、外部磁界により、2層の磁性層14,16の磁化の向きが、平行と反平行との間を変化する多層膜を得ることができる。

比較的低い保磁力を有する第1の磁性層と、Co系合金からなる比較的高い保磁力を有する第2の磁性層とを備える素子において、前記第2の磁性層を絶縁層の上に形成したことを特徴とする素子。
