【要約】【課題】 文字の外部については画素の絶対濃度を基に文字を検出し、文字の内部については画素の濃度差を基に文字を検出することにより、高精度に文字を検出する。【解決手段】 MTF補正回路1からAND回路8によって、文字の外側エッジを検出する。その結果を有効信号発生部15に保持する。微分回路9、10から比較器14によって、所定の濃度を持つ文字の内側エッジを検出する。比較器14と有効信号発生部15の論理積出力と、AND8の出力を基に、文字領域を判定出力する。

デジタル画像中の注目画素および注目画素近傍の濃度値を基にエッジを検出する第1の手段と、該画像の注目画素および注目画素近傍を含む領域内の濃度差を基にエッジを検出する第2の手段と、該第1および第2の手段の検出結果を基に文字領域であるか否かを判定する手段とを備えたことを特徴とする画像処理装置。
