【要約】【課題】 信頼性の高いEL表示装置を提供する。【解決手段】 発光性有機化合物に複数回の精製処理を施すことにより該発光性有機化合物からなる薄膜は、イオン性不純物の濃度が0.01ppm以下で、かつ、体積抵抗率が3×1010Ωcm以上となる。このような薄膜をEL素子の発光層とすることでキャリアの再結合に起因する電流以外の電流を抑制でき、発熱による劣化を抑制することができる。
