基板上に、少なくとも一方が透明または半透明の互いに対向する一対の電極間に有機発光材料を挟持してなる構造体、並びにその構造体および基板の少なくともいずれかの一部の外表面に配設した保護層を形成してなる有機EL素子において、前記保護層が、炭素(C)またはケイ素(Si)を含有する無機アモルファス性膜からなるものであることを特徴とする有機EL素子。
