【要約】【目的】 適正な複合構造を有し、耐熱衝撃性に優れ、高温用構造部材として適用可能な炭素繊維強化炭化ケイ素焼結体とその製造方法を提供する。【構成】 炭化ケイ素と炭素繊維を含む炭素繊維強化炭化ケイ素焼結体において、前記炭素繊維がピッチ系炭素繊維であり、炭化ケイ素には少なくとも焼結助剤を有するものであり、焼結助剤としてはBeO、Al2 O3 等を用いる。また、前記焼結体の製造方法は、炭化ケイ素粉末に例えばBeOを1〜8wt%添加混合し、これにピッチ系炭素繊維を所望の配向性をもたせて混合・添加した後、焼結することによる。【効果】 本発明により、適正な複合構造を有し、繊維特性の劣化が少なく、耐熱衝撃性に優れた炭素繊維強化炭化ケイ素焼結体が得られる。
