原稿画像をその記録密度より高い密度で読取る読取手段と、前記読取手段によって読取られた画像を保持する保持手段と、前記保持手段に保持された画像から所定の特徴をもつ位置を抽出する第一の抽出手段と、前記第一の抽出手段によって抽出された位置に基づいて前記保持手段に保持された画像から特徴量を抽出する第二の抽出手段とを有することを特徴とする画像処理装置。
