正極と、リチウムイオンを吸蔵・放出する炭素質物からなる負極と、リチウムイオン伝導性電解質とを備えたリチウム二次電池において、前記炭素質物が示差熱分析で800°C以下に発熱ピークを有し、黒鉛構造の(002)面の面間隔(d002 )が0.370nm未満、C軸方向の結晶子の大きさ(Lc)が4.0nm以下、真密度が1.7g/cm3 以上であることを特徴とするリチウム二次電池。
