Experimental survey on aseismatic design method for bridge foundation by taking flow of ground into consideration

Research overview:
On the ground with slanting surface or in the vicinity of shore protection, liquefaction at the time of earthquake may cause mobile deformation of the ground and damages on bridge foundation. In the Southern Hyogo Earthquake in 1995, ground flow developed in accordance with moving of water-edge fabrics on the fill-up ground and bridge foundation changed their state. However, influence of ground flow on the bridge foundation contains many unknown parts, so it is necessary for securing safety of bridge foundation against the ground flow to examine regarding quantity of the ground flow, mobile forth exerting on the foundation, counter-construction method and the like.From the viewpoint like the above, the present subject purposes to examine on development conditions of the ground flow and assessment method for it, and propose aseismatic design method of bridge foundation and counter-construction method. In the fiscal 1999, we proposed analytical procedure to calculate displacement of the ground caused by its flow, and displacement and cross-sectional force causing on the bridge foundation, and verified propriety of the analytical procedure by comparing the calculated results with measured values.
