Equation sigmad-1=sigmaO-1+Ka1/2 was semi-theoretically derived between the external stress which operated on the fracture origin at the moment of fracture (sigmad) and the diameter of fracture origin (2a), and it was experimentally clarified that this equation is applicable to various kinds of sintered hard materials and that K is inversely proportional to KIC. From these results, we are proposing the new estimation method of KIC by use of the equation and investigating whether the method is applicable to various kinds of hard materials.
