Basic research on life-saving wireless apparatus for aircrafts

Study period:2001 - 2002
Research overview:
The Electronic Life-saving Transmitter (ELT) is used as a transmitter giving life-saving signals in case of an aircraft accident. Currently, position-informing type emergency information apparatus using advanced technologies such as the Emergency Position-indicating Rescue Buoy (EPIRB) utilizing a satellite for ships and position-informing methods utilizing a portable telephone for terrestrial systems are in a state of practical use. For aircrafts also, it is conceivable that an ELT which transmits position information will be introduced hereafter. When such a kind of ELT is utilized, a method catching newest position information is the key. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate these methods and to study ELTs applied with advanced technologies.
