Experimental investigation on probe method of internal structure of asteroid using elastic wave

Presence of a number of micro or macro vacancies in the undifferentiated asteroid is estimated from the measurement of bulk density by asteroid probe. Further, in the asteroid in which large rocks or fine particle regolith layer exists in surface at the same time, the heterogeneous internal structure is suggested. Although physical probe method for underground structure using water content in soil or conductivity is often used in Earth, they are not expected in asteroid. In order to investigate physical measuring method suitable for internal structure probe by ROVER in the next asteroid probe project, preliminary experiment is performed focusing attention to the correlation of the peak wavelength of elastic wave in underground of regolith layer, attenuation rate and size distribution of the simulated regolith of glass beads.
