Crude tea that has been produced in the Kuma district is mostly pointed of 'black tint' in its color of appearance. This is one of the causes that the bidding price of crude tea produced in the Kuma district is lower than those in other districts. It is conceivable that the thickness of a live leaf (thickness of leaf flesh) influences on the 'black tint'. Accordingly, we have investigated a cultivation technique for decreasing leaf thickness and a manufacture technique for improving color of a live leaf having thick flesh.
