Study for safety and comfort of urban- and local environments: Desirable form of information offering to visually handicapped persons in community

都市及び地域環境の安全性・快適性に関する研究 まちにおける視覚障害者への情報提供のあり方に関する研究
Study period:1997 - 2001
Research overview:
Minute height difference, inclination, and material contrast as paving factors of sidewalks that may offer information to visually handicapped walking persons were settled based on the results of last year's study including confirmation of investigation of walking skill surveyed by accompanying visually handicapped persons, as well as on field survey in preservation areas of traditional buildings taking their skill of walking into consideration. This year's study examines a part of above factors. Thus we conduct experimental tile- and asphalt pavement in the campus of our research center and carry out functional test by visually handicapped persons, to assess its effectiveness as walking information in urban area to compare with Braille brocks.
Research program: Funded Research
