Research overview:
The close association between adult T-cell leukemia (ATL) and human T-cell leukemia virus type I (HTLV-I) has been established. Nevertheless, the mechanism of progression of ATL by HTLV-I infection is still uncertain, because the virus contains no typical oncogene. We reported that the 14q11 anomaly was specific to the acute type of ATL. Afterward, the locus of TCR-alpha was made clear to be at band q11.2 of chromosome 14. The most of the reported patients with thevarious types of T-cell malignancies other than ATL had 14q11 anomaly. On the basis of these facts, we will research the leukemogenesis of ATL had 14q11 anomaly. On the basis of these facts,we will research the leukemogenesis of ATL using the cytogenetic and molecular techniques.
