Research overview:
This study deals with an expandable mast structure as an indispensable component of aerospace satellite. A coilable mast formed with spring material was examined, and its fundamental design parameters were clarified. This mast was applied as the simplest mast of the scientific satellite "Akebono" and as the hingeless mast of GEOTAIL. A high-rigid mast was developed and applied as COMETS and ADEOS.
