Research overview:
Major proportion of pigskin is currently exported and processed overseas to leather. If we consider domestic consumption, application of pigskin to collagen and gelatin is indispensable. Last year's study revealed that sharkskin possesses special properties. Thus this study aims at effective utilization of pig- and sharkskin by converting into collagen or gelatin and addition of new function by chemical modifications and by enzyme treatment. Content : This year's study includes alkali treatment of sharkskin collagen and examination of gel characteristics of collagen solution and gelatin from pig- and sharkskin. Resulting effect : Industrial production method of collagen, as well as tanning procedure, of sharkskin is established. Application of sharkskin collagen solution and gelatin gel is also intended.
