Research overview:
In case of a severe accident in Light Water Reactors, it is possible that the rapid growth of gas bubble caused by steam explosion or other chemical reactions accelerates a water slug and brings about a waterhammer on the wall of containment vessel. However, the coherency of water slug (in time and direction) in these situations is not known well, and it gives a big uncertainty to the estimation of containment failure probability in a severe accident. The aim of this study is to clarify the effects of parameters such as gas growth rate on the coherency of water slug movement, and to establish the estimation method of water hammer on the containment vessel.
