Research overview:
Prostanoids are biologically active lipids, which play crucial roles in inflammation, allergy and stress responses. We identified all eight subtypes of their receptors, and have analyzed the functions of these receptors in various disease models. Based on these studies, novel compounds specifically acting on either of eight prostanoid receptors have also been developed. By analyzing pathological roles of prostanoids with knockout animals deficient with each of prostanoid receptors, we will aim to test the clinical validity of prostanoid receptor-selective compounds as therapeutic drugs for common intractable diseases such as inflammationatory bowel disease, allergic diseases including hayfever and stress disorders.
