Japanese traditional frame pattern has feature of tenacious property to allow large deformation even the exhibit of high strength is difficult, and considered that it hides excellent earthquake resistance which cannot be measured by the existing evaluation subjected to strength. Many buildings injured by the Hansin Great Earthquake and many existing structures need repair or reinforcement for earthquake. No study is achieved intending these facts, and it is important to achieve establishment of technique of this field on the view point of effective usage of resources. The study grasps the behavior of deformation experienced joints by small or middle scale earthquake, when received similar or bigger scale earthquake. The possibility for what kind of repair and reinforcement is examined for each level of destruction of these joints, and degree of effect is examined.
