Development of geo-chemical comprehensive analytical method of minute amount of rock and mineral samples

Research overview:
Amount of samples collected with "MUSES-C" is estimated to be as little as 2grams or less, based on a simulation experiment. It is therefore required to establish a method that extracts physico-chemical information as much as possible with high precision from this minute amount of the samples. We intended to comprehensively combine variously different geo-chemical analyses so-far developed in PML group of Sancho, and succeeded in high-precision quantitative analyses of 55 elements and isotopes of lithium, boron, strontium, neodium, osmium, and lead, with regard to Allende meteorite sample of not greater than 100 mili-gram. Furthermore, with the use of EPMA and ionic probe, we have succeeded in mineral phase determination based on the texture observation of the sample, quantitative analysis of major trace amount elements less than and including 10 micron in size, and measurement of light-element isotopes such as lithium, boron, and oxygen. Presently, we are engaged in preparing standard samples by ourselves, for the purpose of higher precision analysis by the use of beam analysis, and development of isotope analysis for the other elements.
