Study on deep sea ecology

Research overview:
The oceanic ecology system is composed of photo-synthetic ecology system and chemically synthetic ecology sytem that consists of varying phenomena of the interior of the globe such as hydro-thermal effusion and cold spring. Particularly large in scale is the organism communities around hydrothermal effusion holes and cold springs in the deep sea area. These communities maintain a huge amount of organisms by directly or indirectly absorbing effusing materials from deep sea floor, and are estimated to be related to the circulation of the effusing materials. This study attempts to clarify structure (species compositiion, distribution, etc.) and functions (physiological, ecological, and biological interactions) of the deep sea organisms inhabiting around hydrothermal effusion area and cold spring area, throygh a field survey utilizing deep-sea exploration system, and various indoor experiments.
