Research overview:
Currently in Instructions for Road Bridges, typical design standards for foundation of civil engineering fabrics, it has been a standard of design that the foundation is to be installed on or rooted into a sound support layer except special cases. When a sound support layer is not easily available, however, structure of the foundation becomes to be large-scale with very deep rooting, causing increase in cost and period of construction. Because of this, development of more reasonable method of footing construction has been demanded. It is regarded therefore that cost and period of construction can be reduced if we can improve the ground of upper layer portion of a thick layer with weakness by means of consolidating or reinforcing materials and develop a method to use its upper face as the support ground for the foundation. This study has purposed for realizing such a method to develop an evaluation method of bearing power and the like for applicable ground improving construction method. Present state of design method was surveyed in the fiscal 1999.
