Study on basis of next-generation optical recording

Research overview:
1) TARGET: For the purpose of establishing the basis of technology for terabyte-scale very-high capacity optical recording, this study conducts developing (a) the principle and scheme of high-density recording and light microspot generation by application of proximity optics, and (2) basic element technology for high-resolution, high-sensitivity recording material, accurate tracking, and high-speed recording. 2) PLAN: A proximity light probe with micro opening at the tip of a squeezed thin optical fiber can form a microspot of several ten nanometers in diameter without limitation due to optical diffraction. Its output light intensity, however, decreases with size reduction of the spot. This makes high-speed reading difficult. In this respect, this study examines the basic structure of the probe, and conducts the development of the process of assembling an array of proximity light probes in the head of a plane structure.
