Study on design of chelate resin retaining selective adsorption/segregation feature for boric acid ion

Borate ion is included in washing water for nickel plating, smoke-washing drainage from dust incinerator, gaining water from filled ground, etc. Environmental standard for boron has been established in February 1999, and drainage standard is to be set up in the near future. Meanwhile, co-precipitation and adsorption/segragation methods have been proposed to treat borate ion, but they are still far from the practical application. Under these backgrounds, chelate resin is gathering attention in this regard, for its superior maintenance ability and for its possibility of reuse of boric acid. In fiscal 1999, several chelate resins have been predicted to be efficient in their borate-adsorbing capability, by means of molecular orbit calculation.
