Specific subjects: 1) laboratory study on constitutive relations that govern shear deformation, fracture or friction inthe brittle to plastic regime of rock, 2) modeling the earthquake rupture nucleation process, 3) study on precursors associated with the earthquake nucleation process, 4) modelingthe dynamic earthquake source processes and the generating mechanism for high frequency seismic radiation, based on a constitutive law, and 5) estimate of the rupture growth resistance in the seismogenic layer, based on laboratory-based physical principles.
