Selective test of excellent quality grape variety for fresh eating

Study period:1996 - 1999
Research overview:
There are some producers of quadropoid variety represented by highly popular Kyohou , and of demand -increasing European variety as a part. Among them exist the problems such as fruit cracking and poor coloring and thus selection of adequate varieties and investigation of culture technique are urgently needed. Among the recently cultured quadropoid and new European varieties are found some appropriate ones suitable for Hokkaido greenhouse culture, with the suggestion from the test-results of characteristics and culture in limited rhizospheres carried out in various prefectures and Central Agricultural Experiment Station. In this test the suitability of new varieties to greenhouse is investigated and excellent varieties are selected. Also, a number of varieties and lines collected and introduced from and outside of Japan are investigated including open culture, to build a basis for the future selection of varieties. 1) Variety selecting test for greenhouse: Suitability of the new variety of grape for fresh eating to greenhouse is investigated. 2) Investigation of characteristics of varieties and lines: Cold-resistance, ripening time, productivity, fruit-quality, and the like are investigated for varieties and lines introduced from and outside of Japan.
