Archaeological study of stone implements by x-ray fluorescence analysis

X-ray fluorescence analysis is applied to the elementary analysis of sanukite and obsidian coming from various districts in Japan to determine the dependence of the composition on the district. The results are compared with the compositions of stone implements obtained in Japanese remains by multivariate analysis to infer where raw stones were obtained. Based on the obtained data, we elucidate the cultural and trading spheres in the prehistoric age.
