Research overview:
Forest zone resists to the movement of earth, and it contributes as energy dissipater for landslides or debris flows, and accelerates sedimentation there. Therefore, for prevention of the damages of landslides and for preservation of green it is useful to grow forest zone at the foot of mountains. In this study, such effectiveness of the forest is investigated, and ways of its improvement are proposed. In fiscal 1999, continuing study of the previous year on dry collapse, model experiment on wet collapse was performed and confirmed the effectiveness of the forest on energy dissipation and sediment acceleration.
