Research overview:
To develop compressed woood fasteners for timber construction, rotary-cut veneers of sugi are impregnated with low molecular weight phenolic resin and pressed into laminated veneer lumber(LVL) by hot pressing. The joint properties of plates and pins made from the compressed LVL are studies. The bending-type and L-shaped drift-pin joints usingglulam of Douglas-fir with two compressed LVL plates were tested.The crossbanded laminates,consisting crossband about 1/4 of all layers, had great lateral resistance and a very ductile behavoir,there for this type of compressed LVL is suitable for the fasteners.
