Research overview:
In this country, since we have very scarce experience of application of a myoelectricity artificial arm to children, especially to infants, it is difficult to respond appropriately a desire of parents to have a myoelectricity artificial arm applied to their child whose hand was cut off. As the results, the child is accustomed to the life without an artificial arm and even if training to use an artificial arm is done after some time of its growth, the child feels troublesome to use one and then it chooses the life without one. This study aims to establish a system of prescribing, manufacturing and training of a myoelectricity artificial arm for infants with arm defect by team-approach consisting of client infant, parents, doctors, work therapists, engineers and prosthesis apparatus trainers as one mean of a general care including psychological care for child and parents. In this study we apply the system of prescribing, manufacturing and training of a myoelectricity artificial arm for grown-ups with arm defect, which was established in the previous study performed in 1999-2001 under the name of 'The study to establish a system of prescription and manufacturing of a myoelectricity artificial (electrically-driven) arm'.
