Majority of great earthquakes initiate and the strength of rocks is at maximum in the semiductile regime between shallow brittle and deep ductile regimes. Fault constitutive properties in this regime will be established experimentally in order to provide a basis for realistic simulation of the mechanical behavior of a plate boundary including the generation of earthquakes.
