Research overview:
To study the action of natural selection, mutaion, recombination, and other factors in molecular evolution, we first examined the rate constancy of DNA sequence evolution in Drosophila lineages, finding an irregular synonymous substitution pattern. We have been studying its causes and the results obtained so far suggest that varing mutation rates, crossover frequencies, and effective population size all contribute to the significant locus-lineage interaction in the synonymous substitution rates among the Drosophila lineages. A further study is aimed toward identifying the molecular mechanisms for local changes in recombination rates and mutation pressure.
