Investigation on the role of ocean on the planetary climate

Research overview:
For the purpose of investigating influence of ocean possibly existed in the northern hemi-sphere of Mars in the past, we investigated influence of a circular ocean located around a pole of a hypothetical planet on its climate. Water supply to the low latitude zone was confirmed to depend on the width of Hardley cell and relative position of lower latitude limit of the ocean, and also a possibility of a remarkable precipitation in the low latitude zone was confirmed in case that the ocean stretches out to the lower latitude side than that of Hardley region, It was also interesting to note that, even with the ocean the southern limit of which is located at relatively high latitude region (about 30 degrees), the ocean has a certain influence on the precipitation. It was also indicated that the larger the ocean, the higher the possibility of all of the planets in frozen state when solar radiation is reduced. These are the important information for investigation on the relation between quantity of water on the planet surface and stability of the planet environment, not confined to the environment of the ancient Mars.
