Research overview:
The purpose of the present study is to develop techniques for smart turbulence control, which should lead to tremendous technological impacts such as drag reduction and enhancement in combustion and heat transfer, by developing highly intelligent fluid-dynamic devices with new functions. The major research targets leading to innovative thermal fluids systems are (1) active feedback control of wall turbulence by using MEMS devices or controlling fluid properties for skin friction reduction and heat transfer control, and (2) turbulence combustion control by controlling mixing and diffusion for stabilizing lean and premixed combustion.
