Research overview:
Various halogenated hydrocarbons produced by algae are contained in sea water and the highly volatile ones are discharged into the atmosphere. Highly reactive halogenated hydrocarbons such as methyl iodide releases halogen radicals to destroy an ozone layer, and so the concentration of ozone in an ocean atmospheric boundary layer may be changed. In this study, the composition and change of iodide and bromide compound in the atmosphere and ocean is clarified and the effect of ocean originated halogenated hydrocarbons on the disappearance of ozone in the ocean atmoshpheric boundary layer is evaluated.
