Research overview:
Our research project aims to realize an active control system of a thermocapillary flow in a half-zone (HZ) liquid bridge. Thermocapillary effect is caused by temperature dependent surface tension and drives a flow along the free surface. The effect dominates a liquid phase flow in the material processing under the microgravity condition. The induced flow causes detrimental defects in the crystal structure of the material. So, this project is of great importance in order to establish material processing techniques under microgravity condition. Moreover, the control of the flow attracts now much academic attention in the field of fluid dynamics and thermodynamics.
