Study on erosive combustion characteristics of modified motor S-310

While propellant BP-28 has been used for the present S-310 motor, BP-206J is to be used for the S-310 modified motor because of the poor access to the materials. S-310 modified motor has a large aspect ratio of the combustion chamber like the present motor and, therefore, the erosive combustion is unavoidable. This study is examining the erosive combustion characteristics of the new propellant BP-206J. The combustion speed was measured by using x-ray in the double-Slab Motor(DSM) combustion test conducted in the laboratory. The fundamental data of erosive combustion coefficient, particularly the relations related to the port flow, was obtained. The study further confirmed the erosive combustion characteristics including the scale effect in the combustion test of a long motor of theta 80. The combustion of S-310 in the real size scale is to be conducted in August 2001.
