Research overview:
Spherical carbon clusters C60 and its analogues (fullerenes) are an attractive starting points for advanced materials. In this project, chemical tranformation of fullerenes by organometallic reagents is explored to give fullerene derivatives with organometallic substitutents. Organopalladium and platinum complexes of C60 or silylmethylated C60 have been synthesized. The latter compounds are usefull as a silane coupling reagent, and silica modified by silylmethylated C60 was proved to be excellent as a stationary phases of high performance liquid chromatography and as a catalyst for photooxygenation of olefins.
