Studies on feeding of plant plankton by heterophytic Mastigophora

Study period:1990 - 1994
Organization (1):
Investigating Researcher (3):
Research overview:
1) To establish a method for germ-free clone culture of G.fissum, 2) To understand what types of plant plankton are preferred by G. fissum, to examine what types of plant planktonare consumed by G. fissum at what speed in order to understand whether the feeding speed depends on the cell size of theplant plankton or on some other factors, 3) To study the effect of plankton density on G. fissum's feeding speed, to examine whether any threshold exists (whether G. fissum stops eating below certain plankton density) using continuous culture groups, 4) To understand how G. fissum af0ects the transition and superiority of the strain based on the results from 2) and 3) above and the data on the transition of the plant plankton group in the Seto Inland Sea during summer
