Development study of the lowmelting lead-free frits for the on-glaze colors

As a countermeasures against lead elution from ceramic containers, study on lead-free glaze and the like has been aggressively performed all over the world. In this study, low-melting lead-free frits were surveyed and trial manufactured that were basically composed of milky-white glass of lead-free borosilicates containing fluorine, practically used as containers for drinking, and excellent in chemical resistance and cost performance. Its application to low-melting lead-free ceramics color was also examined. The study showed that, the "Kouchi" Process of directly seizing the trial-manufactured lead-free color on the sintered body of pottery substrate was proved to give the decorating function on the surface, well covered at low temperature, of the ceramic substrate.
