Research overview:
Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is recently highlighted as pre-dementia state. Almost one half of the cases in Tokyo Metropolitan Geriatric Hospital belong to MCI. We are creating a critical path to screen MCI, with Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), MRl, functional imaging, ApoE genotyping and CSF biomarker. In addition, clinical symptoms in MCI stage are didacted from clinical charts of pathologically verified Alzheimer's disease and aging-associated tauopathy from 1400 serial autopsy cases in the last seven years. Combining these two types of information, we will select cases with early Alzheimer's disease for medical intervention. We also try to clarify the clinical characteristics of aging-associated tauopathy for the differential diagnosis from Alzheimer's disease.
