Research overview:
In order to raise market evaluation of rice produced in Chiba prefecture, good quality and good taste brand rice varieties covering a wide range of maturing season ranging from the very early rice variety which is earlier than "Hananomai" by about 5 days to the late variety which is later than "Koshihikari" by 5days are bred. Breeding of varieties is performed mainly by cross breeding as ell as by anther culture in cooperation with the Plant Engineering Laboratory. Breeding of a good quality and good taste variety with a higher resistance to low temperature than "Hatsuboshi" is carried out for the meantime.
