Research overview:
It has been known that there are plants that produce substantial heat to avoid freezing when exposed to low, freezing temperature. Skunk cabbage, which flowers at very early spring, is one of those plants that retain the temperature of spadix by thermogenesis. To understand the mechanism of thermogenesis of plants at low temperature, we have been, 1) isolating genes responsible for thermogenesis in skunk cabbage and 2) analyzing the mechanism to control the expression of these genes at low temperature.
