Research overview:
The actual state of water contamination in Hokkaido by the endocrine-disrupting chemicals (environmental hormones) is surveyed based on the technique of bio-assay using genetic transformation yeasts. With this method, the total environmental risk (strength of endocrine-disrupting action) is grasped, which has been hitherto considered impossible to be grasped with the traditional chemical analyses. Moreover, chemicals of the environmental risk factor are clarified by means of the chemical analyses. Subsequently, a draft for reducing the cause substances is prepared, and a basic data for preventing contamination by the environmental hormones is submitted.
